Warriors Upset Reigning Champions 30-12

Warriors too strong for Buccaneers in opening week.

The biggest preseason the Warriors Juniors have faced ever came after the appointment of Rookie & first ever female Head Coach Heaher Buzza.

Coach Buzza understood exactly what she was getting herself into when she accepted the challenge and brought coaching to a whole new level in Gridiron Victoria.

With the commitment of her assistant coaches, and the leadership of some returning players, the Warriors were able to jump away to a head start this preseason, with the team going away for camp a week prior to padding up their players.

Although there is much to learn once the pads come on, the players were able to bond, learn their playbooks, work on their techniques and create a brotherhood with one another.

Coach Buzza is not only helping her team work hard for on-field success, she is also allowing her players to study at training so that their studies are not affected by sport, should they require it. This commitment has been welcomed by the parents of the players, who appreciate that the club understands where their priorities are.

All the hard work and preparation that the team went through in preseason, didn’t come to waste when the team opened up their season against the reigning champion Buccaneers. The Warriors jumped to an early lead and although the Buccaneers were able to reduce the margin, the resilience of the group showed and they were able to pull away to a 30-12 win in Croydon. This is a similar setting to the opening week for the Senior team just 5 months earlier who defeated a Buccaneer outfit who were then reigning Champions at the time.

The club is excited with the young talent that has come through the club and with the assistance of the coaches and other special guests, this season should be one to look out for.
